Summary:

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of verbal behavior within the framework of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), focusing on its theoretical foundations, functional applications, and instructional design considerations for effective intervention.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain Skinner’s Analysis of Verbal Behavior – Identify key components of Skinner’s theory on language acquisition, including the taxonomy of verbal operants with real-world examples (Skinner, 1957).
  2. Analyze the Role of the Listener and Verbal Episodes – Differentiate between speaker and listener behavior, and explore bidirectional naming as an extension relevant to cognitive development.
  3. Utilize a Decision-Making Framework for Intervention Selection – Determine the most effective approach for verbal behavior training by considering the client’s current abilities, learning history, and response to intervention.
