Summary: The Coordination of Care (CofC) group invites Dr. Kathryn Kalafut to talk about Applied Animal Behavior. “In both the experimental and applied behavior literature, there is much research that aims to understand the functionality of conditioned stimuli (i.e. previously neutral stimulus paired with primary reinforcers). While common definitions of conditioned reinforcers emphasize the role of respondent conditioning, they do not mention the role of operant conditioning. This presentation will present research meant to evaluate the multiple effects of delivering a conditioned reinforcer with and without a primary reinforcer. The results of this study demonstrate the dual functions conditioned reinforcers conditioned in the traditional manner have, and the discussion will highlight how these data can and should inform applied practice with both humans and animals.
